What does this mean for you? What does it mean to really love yourself? To give yourself the love you so freely give to other people.

I used to think that self-love meant self-indulgence and I believed I wouldn’t get anywhere in my life if I was self-indulgent. I am learning there is a big difference between self-indulgence and self-love, although even when I do self-indulge I am practicing being soft, kind and gentle with myself before getting curious and exploring what I actually needed when I spent that money I didn’t have or ate something that wasn’t good for my physical health. I am learning through slowing down, taking a conscious pause, to work with both the cravings and resistance that can be in my body. I am learning that, for me, self-love means self-respect, self-acceptance and self-care – mentally, emotionally, physically and financially.

It means getting to know myself, caring for myself, and being with myself even when it feels really uncomfortable. Not giving myself a constant hard time when I don’t do things perfectly, when I stuff up. Forgiving myself. Being my own best friend. I owe this to myself; in fact I am the only person that owes me this.

What does it mean for you?

With great warmth

Jo
